~ The ammonia nitrogen cycle can take two forms. Toxic (the fish) is in the form of ammonia, NH3, and occurs when the pH is greater than 7.0. Non-toxic ammonia and NH 4 occurs when the pH is below 7.0. Ammonia is very toxic to fish. Ammonia down into nitrites (NO2) by specific bacteria, so-called "Nitrosomonas" degraded bacteria. Then the nitrites have dropped in "nitrates" (NO3) any other specific bacteria called "bacteria Nitrobacter" broken. Nitrates are not harmful to fish unless they arehigh. The most effective way to nitrates is influenced by the low tide. In a new aquarium very little available from the Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter bacteria are, and need time to play enough to the collapse of their respective nitrogen compounds. The bacteria on surfaces like gravel in the aquarium (if you have it) or the material in the filter, such as sponges that attach themselves to mount a large surface area for bacteria. ~ Homemade DIY Aquarium Filter This processrequires the following points: gravel, filter floss or sponge, straws, tubes, silicon tube, air pump. It takes about 15 minutes to do this very efficient homemade filter.
